Atrium Stair: Klára Hosnedlová—Shelter
New MuseumLower East Side
The site-specific installation by Klára Hosnedlová (b. 1990, Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic) commissioned for the Museum’s new Atrium Stair is the artist’s first museum project in the United States. Made possible by a continuing collaboration between the New Museum and Danish textile company Kvadrat to support ambitious new productions by emerging artists, Hosnedlová’s new work reflects her ongoing interest in intersecting questions around labor, gender, and historical memory. Her sandstone and glass sculpture will be surrounded by a pelt-like form created from a flax-based textile and will feature the artist’s signature intricate embroideries. The work will be viewable on the Atrium Stair and surrounding landings from the Museum’s Lobby up to the Fourth Floor.
