New Museum
The New Museum, founded by Marcia Tucker in 1977, is New York's leading museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art — historically the first New York museum committed to living artists from around the world. Its SANAA-designed stacked-boxes tower on the Bowery, opened in 2007, was joined in March 2026 by a seven-story OMA-designed expansion that doubles the museum's galleries and adds an atrium stair, studio, and expanded Sky Room. The museum is known for risk-taking surveys, the incubators NEW INC and Rhizome, and for introducing international artists to American audiences.
