The Noguchi Museum was designed and founded by Isamu Noguchi in 1985 — the first museum in America established, designed, and installed by a living artist to show their own work. Occupying a converted 1920s industrial building and a serene open-air sculpture garden in Long Island City, across the street from where his studio operated for decades, the museum holds the world's largest collection of Noguchi's sculptures, models, drawings, and his Akari light sculptures, presenting them in the contemplative sequence the artist himself composed.
