The Drawing Center
The Drawing Center is the only nonprofit exhibition space in the United States to focus solely on the medium of drawing, historical and contemporary. Founded in 1977 by Martha Beck in SoHo, where it occupies a landmarked 1866 cast-iron building on Wooster Street, the institution treats drawing as expansively as artists do — mounting exhibitions that have ranged from Michelangelo and Victor Hugo to wall-drawing commissions and its long-running Open Sessions program for emerging artists, all accompanied by its noted Drawing Papers publication series.
