Studio Museum in Harlem
The Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally, and internationally. Founded in 1968, the museum is anchored by its influential artist-in-residence program — whose alumni include Kehinde Wiley, Mickalene Thomas, Titus Kaphar, and Simone Leigh — and by a collection of over 9,000 works spanning two centuries of Black art. In late 2025 it reopened in its first purpose-built home, a David Adjaye-designed building on West 125th Street, expanding its galleries, education spaces, and public programs at the heart of Harlem.
