SculptureCenter is a nonprofit contemporary art museum in Long Island City, founded in 1928 as 'The Clay Club' and dedicated to sculpture and expanded approaches to the medium. Housed since 2001 in a former trolley repair shop redesigned by Maya Lin, with a later addition by Andrew Berman, the institution is known for commissioning ambitious new work and for giving many artists — from Ugo Rondinone to Kelly Akashi — their first significant American museum shows. Its 'In Practice' open-call program has launched dozens of emerging artists' careers.
