Jack Shainman Gallery has been dedicated since its founding in 1984 to championing artists who have achieved mastery of their creative disciplines and are among the most compelling and influential contributors to culture today. The gallery is particularly recognized for its decades-long commitment to artists of the African diaspora and the Global South — including Nick Cave, Kerry James Marshall (early on), El Anatsui, Barkley L. Hendricks, and Toyin Ojih Odutola. It operates spaces on West 20th Street in Chelsea and a landmarked former bank at 46 Lafayette Street in Tribeca, plus The School, a 30,000-square-foot exhibition space in a converted 1929 schoolhouse in Kinderhook, New York.
