STUDIO VISITS | Creative Spaces and Collected Lives

Demisch Danant presents Studio Visits, an exhibition inspired by the creative spaces, personal collections and spirit of discovery that have shaped the gallery since its earliest days. It takes its cue from the late 1990s, when Suzanne Demisch and Stéphane Danant spent years traveling through France in search of furniture, artworks and objects — when discovery happened through conversations, chance encounters and visits to studios, private homes, workshops and flea markets.

Furniture, sculpture, photography, works on paper, lighting, maquettes, prototypes and vernacular objects are shown together, including works by César, Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Michel Boyer and Joseph-André Motte, and Roger Tallon’s Module 400 Staircase acquired from César’s Paris studio, set beside anonymous and unexpected pieces. Hierarchies collapse: an important artwork lives in conversation with an unassuming stool.

The exhibition recalls the slower, more personal pursuit of picking — research, intuition and curiosity — and will feature pop-ups and activations throughout its run. An opening reception is held Thursday, September 17, 6–8 PM.
